PBIS & Restorative Practices

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

PBIS play a crucial role in fostering a safe and positive school culture by promoting proactive strategies that encourage positive behavior, reduce disciplinary issues, and enhance the overall learning environment. By establishing clear expectations for student behavior and consistently reinforcing those behaviors, PBIS not only helps students understand the importance of respect, responsibility, and ready to learn, but also creates a sense of community and belonging.

  • Grizzly Bucks: Students earn Grizzly Bucks for living our values. Students then have the opportunity to “shop” at our Grizzly Cart on Fridays.
  • Elementary Morning Meeting: Monthly, our elementary Grizzlies meet as a group to honor our Character Champions and celebrate birthdays. Mrs. Holden and Dr. Jaime also facilitate a social emotional lesson and activity for students and teachers. Students are in Sleuth Groups, which are mixed grades level groups.
  • ECE-8 Whole School Assemblies: Quarterly, we meet as a Grizzly family to celebrate students living our values, highlight academic excellence, and shout-out students with fantastic attendance!

Restorative Practices

Grant Ranch teachers and staff are committed to using restorative practices to build positive relationships with students and create a strong school community. Restorative practices are used to resolve conflicts and support students with understanding their behavior. Through restorative practices, Grant Ranch staff and students have the opportunity to repair harm that is done as well as build skills and understanding, creating a more inclusive and belonging school community.

  • Grant Ranch teachers and staff are committed to using restorative practices to build positive relationships with students and create a strong school community.
  • Restorative practices will be used to resolve conflicts and support students with their behavior. In the classroom, teachers will use restorative conversations to support student reflection related to all Tier 1 behaviors. The SEL Team will facilitate Restorative Conferences for all behavioral referrals.
  • The SEL Team integrates Restorative Practices into all discipline procedures, including re-entry conversations/circles, as applicable and appropriate for the situation
  • Students can request for restorative practices to resolve conflict between peers.
  • Staff can request for restorative practices to resolve conflict between peers, or with parents/families.

Restorative Conversation Questions:

  1. What happened?
  2. Who was directly or indirectly harmed/affected?
  3. What part is each person responsible for?
  4. Who will repair the harm?
  5. And finally, what would prevent this from happening again, or what can I do differently next time?
