My name is Leslie Sauerand. I am the school nurse at Grant Ranch School. I think we have a great team this year, and I look forward to getting to know you. My previous nursing experience is in Hospice and Geriatrics, so dealing with children is a welcome change. In my past life, I worked to coordinate tissue and eye donations, which was fascinating and challenging from a medical standpoint and extremely rewarding from a personal perspective. Before coming to Colorado (in 1995), I lived in Utah. I worked for a rehab hospital in a variety of positions, and as a licensed massage therapist. I volunteered with Community Nursing Services and Hospice as well as the Utah Aids Foundation. I have always been fascinated with the process of death and dying and developed a passion for this type of work. I was blessed to be with my father when he passed away – it was an incredible out-of-body/mind/world experience!
I am married (yikes – 21 years) and have a 12-year old son (just started middle school) and a 4-year old chocolate lab (who will never get to college). I love to be outside; camping, hiking, biking, skiing, gardening, whatever! I love to travel and have been lucky to visit places like Africa, Nepal, South America and Europe. My husband and I did a trek in Nepal in 1999 and (almost) reached the base camp of Makalu, the 5thhighest peak in the world. It was definitely a life-changing experience. I am very understanding and open to conversation – stop by and see me!
